All about the Kareri to Triund Trek

The Kareri Lake at an elevation of about 3,300 meters that is located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is one of the high altitude lakes in the Indian Himalayan region. The Kareri Lake is formed by the inflow of melted waters from the Dhauladhar Peak. Nestled around the beautiful Dhauladhar, Kareri Lake is a Glacial Lake fed by the melting snow of Dhauladhar peaks. Kareri Lake is High Altitude fresh water lake. Situated at an altitude of 2950 meters to the northwest of Dharamsala in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. As the Melting Glacier form the main source of this Lake, the lake is shallow and water visibility is very high Quite often the lake beds can be seen in most of the places. Nyund is the main outflow of the lake. Kareri Lake also serves as a base for onward trekking to Chamba, Bleni Pass, and Bharmour. The trail to Kareri lake is Majorly uphill and at some stretches quite tiresome, but is surprisingly beautiful and mesmerizing along with the sound of the lapping stream, the enchanting forest, and spellbinding flowers beds.
Triund lies above McLeod Ganj at a height of 2875 meters, is a large green pasture land acting as a perfect vantage point for gazing the massive Dhauladhar Ranges and breath-taking Kangra valley.  Triund act as an acclimatization point for trekkers climbing the Indrahara pass and Moonpeak in the Dhauladhar Ranges
It ‘s a moderate trek and offers spectacular View of Dhauladhar range. We trek on trails linking scared lakes, ancient temples and tribal villages and camp in verdant alpine meadows set beneath the snow-capped backdrop of the Dhauladhar. This trek is the best Alpine trek in Dharamshala.

    Arrival at Mcleodganj, meet and greet our team and after a quick briefing by the team we start our hike to Kareri village. Kareri village is an old village of Gaddi Sheppard, where one can catch glimpse of beautiful farms and village huts. While trekking on the way, we will pass through the thick pine forest and will also cross several Tribal villages. On the trail primarily, we will walk for a few kilometers towards the bottom of a hill and then after reaching a point, we will start mounting to Kareri village. Overnight camping/homestay at Kareri Village.


    After having wholesome breakfast, we will begin a demanding trek towards Kareri Lake. It will be a 6 to 7 hours expedition , this trek will prove to be a delightful experience for the trekkers as they will hike next to the flowing river streams, cross several overpasses and walk over the boulders on the way. In the trail for initial few kilometers, we will stroll on the slender, muddy and rocky pathway, which is lined with densely forested and towering mountains on one side, and on the other there is a river gorge. On reaching the lake, we will pitch our camp next to the beautiful kareri lake. On can explore the area, visit the lord Shiva temple. Overnight camping and dinner at Kareri Lake.

  3. Day 3 DAY 3: KARERI LAKE – BAGGA(3000M)(10KM 4-5 HOURS)

    Today, it will be an easy day for the trekking. At first, we will trek downwards to reach Bagga, on the way to the trail one will notice an extreme transformation in the topography and moving forward with the each step the jungle and flora will become dense. Overnight Camping and Dinner at Bagga

  4. Day 4 BAGGA – RAWA VILLAGE (2500M) (12 KM 5-6 HOUR)

    After wholesome breakfast we hike to Rawa village. Rawa Village is situated in near the banks of river. The trail to the village there is a steep ascent through the forest . Overnight Camping/Homestay and dinner at Rawa Village.

  5. Day 5 RAWA – GUNA DEVI TEMPLE (2120 M) (13KM 6-8 HOURS)

    After breakfast , we will continue our hike to Guna Devi temple. The temple is Situated in the middle of forest. The trek trail to the Guna devi temple offers the great view of flora and fauna. Overnight Camping and Dinner near Guna devi temple

  6. Day 6 DAY 6 GUNA DEVI TEMPLE TRIUND (2875M) (12 KM 6-7 HOURS)

    This day after a wholesome breakfast we hike to Triund . At first there is 2 km walk than there is It’s a steep Ascent trail of mixed forest will take us to Triund. Triund is a large green meadow (white if snow), which offers a spectacular view of Dhauladhar mountains on one hand and the massive Kangra valley on the other . Overnight Camping and Dinner at Triund.


    Rise early and enjoy the beautiful sunrise. After breakfast we trek back to Mcleodganj. End of a memorable trip!
